Phone Number Generator FAQ
What format do US phone numbers use?
US phone numbers follow the NANP (North American Numbering Plan) format: (NXX) NXX-XXXX, where N is a digit from 2โ9. The full format is a 3-digit area code, a 3-digit central office code, and a 4-digit subscriber number โ 10 digits total. Example: (212) 555-0143. Numbers are commonly written as (XXX) XXX-XXXX or XXX-XXX-XXXX.
Are the generated phone numbers real?
No. All generated phone numbers are entirely fictional and are not assigned to any real subscriber. Area codes are based on real US states (e.g., 212 for New York, 310 for Los Angeles), but the full 10-digit numbers are randomly composed and have never been assigned. They are safe for software testing.
Do the area codes match the generated state?
Yes. The generator links area codes to the state of the generated address. For example, a California address will use a California area code such as 213, 310, or 415. This makes the generated profiles more realistic and consistent for testing purposes.
Can I use a fake phone number to receive SMS?
No. These are randomly generated number strings โ they are not connected to any real phone line, SIM card, or VoIP service. You cannot receive calls or SMS on them. For SMS verification testing, use a burner SIM, a VoIP service, or a dedicated SMS testing API.
What phone number fields are included in the generated profile?
Each generated profile includes a primary US phone number formatted as (xxx) xxx-xxxx. The profile also includes 28 other fields: full name, gender, birthday, address, SSN, credit card number, email, username, occupation, and more โ giving you a complete synthetic identity for testing.
Can I generate phone numbers in bulk?
Yes. Switch to Batch mode to generate up to 50 profiles at once, each with a unique phone number. You can then download all results as CSV or JSON โ ideal for populating test databases, seeding demo apps, or load-testing contact forms.
