What is the format of a US ZIP code?
US ZIP codes (Zone Improvement Plan codes) are 5-digit numbers assigned by the United States Postal Service (USPS). For example: 90210 (Beverly Hills, CA). The extended ZIP+4 format adds a hyphen and 4 more digits for precise delivery sorting โ e.g., 90210-3702. The 5-digit format is the standard for most purposes.
Are the generated ZIP codes real?
Yes โ the ZIP codes are based on real USPS postal zone data for each US state. The 5-digit codes are genuine ZIP code prefixes assigned to real geographic areas. However, the generated full addresses (street names, apartment numbers) are fictional. Do not use them to deceive postal services or verify identity.
Do the ZIP codes match the generated city and state?
Yes. The generator links ZIP codes to the city and state shown in the address. For example, a profile with state 'California' and city 'Los Angeles' will use a ZIP code from the 900โ918 range assigned to that area. This makes generated profiles geographically consistent.
What is ZIP+4 and when do I need it?
ZIP+4 (also called ZIP Plus Four) extends the basic 5-digit ZIP code with a 4-digit suffix that identifies a specific delivery block or building. It is used by USPS for precise sorting automation. For most testing purposes, the standard 5-digit ZIP is sufficient. ZIP+4 is required for some bulk mailing, enterprise forms, and USPS API integrations.
Can I generate ZIP codes for a specific state?
Yes. Use the state selector dropdown in the generator to filter results by state. The ZIP code will then be drawn from the valid range for that state. You can also use the bulk mode to generate multiple ZIP codes for the same or different states at once.
What other fields come with the generated ZIP code?
Each generated profile includes 29 fields alongside the ZIP code: full name, gender, birthday, full street address, city, state, phone number, email, SSN, credit card, occupation, company, and more.
